about getting from point A to point B in the most interesting ways possible

If you're a large woman in America, your whole life is an opportunity to feel self-conscious, embarrassed, resentful and way too big. You can hide in the corner or on the couch, you can go to therapy, or you can put on your lycra bike shorts and get out there and move.

2 vs 4 stroke: 2 strokes (old vespas, stellas) are louder and pollute more.

engine size: Obviously, this affects speed -- larger engine, more speed. Also more power, especially on hills or carrying heavier loads (or an additional passenger).

tire size: the usual scooter tire is a 10". The usual motorcycle tire is a 16". The bigger the tire, the greater the stability.

Decisions, decisions! Do you have a "Head-turning Index" on each of these? It sounds like the budget may be a major deciding point!

how come no vespa ET4? it's a 4-stroke 150cc. is the $3,999 price quoted on the vespa site actually way wrong? heh, i feel like i'm getting my scooter fix vicariously through your experience.

Based on my shopping experience when I bought my scooter last year: If you are going on longer rides, frequently want to carry a passenger, or live in a hilly area go with the larger engine size (at least 150cc). On the other side if you are riding mostly alone and live in a relatively flat region the 125cc may be enough. It depends a little bit on how fast you want to get where you're going. My little 49cc scooter is enough for what I want to use it for. If I were taking it the 27K to work every day I would probably want a bigger motor. P.S. Spend the money and get a good helmet!
