about getting from point A to point B in the most interesting ways possible

If you're a large woman in America, your whole life is an opportunity to feel self-conscious, embarrassed, resentful and way too big. You can hide in the corner or on the couch, you can go to therapy, or you can put on your lycra bike shorts and get out there and move.

breaking the vegan pattern permalink

Well, my 6 week detox is over. I had the blood work done this morning, and I'll give you all the results once I get them in the mail.

Like an idiot this morning, I decided to push the envelope. I stopped at Burgerville (local hamburger chain) and got one of their toaster biscuits and hash browns. One bite of the untoasted bread on the toaster biscuit got the bread evicted. The sausage and egg were greasy and salty. The hash browns, somehow, less so.

I felt the effects immediately. I felt my stomach clutch, like I might throw up. I broke out in a cold sweat.

It took about 45 minutes for those symptoms to pass, and what did I do at lunch, I pushed it again. I got some yummy soup, and two of the nofish sandwiches, along with a salad. For a solid hour, all I could think about was the food moving through my system, and how crappy my system feels.

As it is, I'm going out for pizza tonight. Going out for lunch on Friday, and for dinner. Part of me hopes that I will continue to feel crappy, so that I will get right back on the good foot.

Burgerville breakfasts are the greasiest! I used to get them on the way to hiking trips, but now I stop at McDonalds because it's actually LESS heavy and greasy.

Not to gross you out even more, but there's a lot of e.coli out there-- restaurants can be really filthy. And even if the workers are diligent about washing hands, the customers may not be. So every time they touch something, like the stall door in the ladies room, or the counter, the germs can get passed on. IMO it's much safer to eat breakfast at home and pack your own lunch.

Do you know the Blossoming Lotus Cafe? They are all vegan and live food and so delicious. Bo gave me one of his cookbooks and I use it all of the time to cook great food and I am not even vegan!

Have you not viewed "Super Size Me?" If not, you should. I had the same experience once before; I stopped eating lots of fried foods for a while and then had a lot of margarine in a dish, and threw it up. Even now I can't eat lots of fried stuff without getting a little burpy (or worse). you body adjusts to a healthier diet. It doesn't like grease. Sorry, but I had to comment, you know me!

VJ, I have a terrible habit of breaking fasts and detox programs with fried food and dairy products.
I know exactly the sort of digestive hell you experienced. I hope you're able to get the pizza over with and get back to the beans and greens -- before the concept of pizza starts to make sense again. Very anxious to hear how your bloodwork turns out. I'm going to see a new Chinese doctor next week and am almost ready to begin whatever drastic dietary changes I'm sure she'll recommend.
